Nine in 10 reportedly saw improvement from GambleAware-commissioned support service

GambleAware has released data from the National Gambling Treatment Service and the newly commissioned National Gambling Support Network, suggesting the impact of its treatment on people affected by problem gambling. 

The National Gambling Support Network, which was previously known as 'The National Gambling Treatment Service,' offers free, confidential and personalised support to anyone affected by problems associated with gambling. 

There are 10 organisations operating across England, Scotland and Wales who provide this confidential treatment, as well as early intervention and prevention services. GambleAware has said that each year nearly 7,000 people access support, with 44,000 calls answered by the National Gambling Helpline. 

According to the data for 2022-23 released by GambleAware,Free games the support has provided nine in 10 patients with an improvement after undergoing treatment and on average seeing big reductions in gambling problems. 

CEO at Ara Recovery for All, Graham England, said: “NGSN services represent the first line of defence in supporting and reaching people before problems with gambling become catastrophic consequences. We are talking about brilliant, dedicated teams making a decisive difference in the lives of thousands of people across Great Britain.

"The latest data from this network commissioned through GambleAware highlights just how effective and desperately needed, those tailored, community-focused, interventions are.” 

Towards the end of November, GambleAware launched a campaign calling for an end to the stigma surrounding problem gambling, encouraging people who are experiencing gambling harms to ‘open up about gambling.’
